Jen Nathan

At the wee age of 10, Jen Nathan remembers listening to NPR coverage of the Clarence Thomas hearings from the back of her family's station wagon. After asking, "Mommy, what's sexual harassment?" she knew the power of radio.

Twelve years later, with little more than a college degree and a dream, she wiggled her way into a producer's position at WAMC Northeast Public Radio in Albany, NY. For three years she woke up at 5am to coordinate a daily three hour arts, news, and current events show called The Roundtable. Between screening phone calls, hunting down Congresspersons, and producing a live music segment, she had her hands full, but managed to sneak in interviews with big rig truck drivers and musicians like Ted Leo.

In the Fall of 2007 Jen packed her bags for Portland, Maine to attend the Salt Institute of Documentary Studies. There she interviewed hip hop DJs, a laundromat manager turned priest, and two old men caring for each other at the end of life. Today she's a independent radio producer based in Asheville, North Carolina and spends much of her time editing audio for WUNC / American Public Media's The Story. When she's not editing audio or interviewing Dodgeball World Cup champions, she's at clubs and bars listening to as much indie rock as she can shove between her ears.
